JASON GENEROTTI Swift 019-85 WINS THE 2007 SARRC INVITATIONAL CHALLENGE AND IS CROWNED 2007 SOUTH ATLANTIC ROAD RACING CHAMPION
After winning the SCCA's Florida Regional Championship for Formula Ford for 2006, Jason Generotti, a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Central Florida elected to participate in the full South Atlantic Road Racing Championship (SARRC) competing to win the 2007 SARRC Invitational Challenge (SIC) and the 2007 South Atlantic Road Racing Points Championship. After chasing points across the Southeast United States since November 2006, (Miami/Homestead, Moroso/WPB-Fla, Kershaw/SC, Sebring/Fla, Barber/Ala, Nashville/Tenn and Savannah/GA), the top two overall season's point leaders were Jason Generotti followed by John Benson. They were only separated by four (4) points for the Season Championship! The SARRC Invitational Challenge/SIC was held on the weekend of September 23/24 at Roebling Road, Savannah, GA and it saw classic FF racing. The top four qualifiers in FF were all in DB-1s: Benson-Pole, Generotti-2nd, James Lee-3rd & Adrian Aveni, 4th. The title contenders went at it hammer, shield and sword yet clean as could be, during the entire race they swapped the lead multiple times - pass, re-pass caught in traffic, held up by lapped traffic - all the time both driving at the absolute limit, cars twitching at the brink of losing control. A last lap pass at turn one by Jason gave him the lead and he held it for .127sec. length victory winning the 2007 SIC Runoffs and being crowned the SCCA 2007 South Atlantic Road Racing Championship Season Points Champion !
This car was 1 of the 3 cars purchased by the Smith family
of Evergreen Aviation in Oregon (Spruce Goose owners) in 1985 for the 2 brothers
to race - seems to have been the spare. I purchased the car in 1987 from Florida
Sports Cars who bought all three, keeping #19-85. I raced the car from 1987
through 1991, racing in then very very competitive SEDiv winning the Florida
Region Championship in 1991. I started coaching hockey, parked the car in
1992 and allowed Dennis Hoeing use in in 1996 to compete in the SEDiv for
the Runoffs which he did, and then it was parked again.
Recently I made a deal with my son, win a scholar to college/mechanical engineering
program and drive the car. He did and in his first year won 4 SARRC races
and the Florida Region Championship 2006 in a car built the year he was born
with IVY Motor 01-86! The circle is complete!
